Text 29 Oct Bank Holiday tv day

Hanging out with the lads today watching stupid tv. Earlier, we watched some of the old Batman tv show from the 60s and laughed heartily at Adam West’s deadpan expression and monotone voice while wearing a leotard.

We bought some indian food which was highly disappointing!

I have to work in the factory again tomorrow which is a bit of a bummer.

Today I was a little bit sad so Aaron tried his best to cheer me up. He has a sick tummy so I suppose we’re both in miserable humour!

Sometimes I feel like I have to reestablish contact with my tumblr because it can feel like a lifeline to places and people that aren’t Ireland. Ireland always stays the same.

Text 23 Aug

I miss my friends. It takes me a while until I’m sitting still enough to realise when I miss people but I’m sitting still and I’m also missing. So that’s my evening. Oh, that and reading Terry Goodkind.

Being in the bathroom at 3.30 am in the morning makes my brain go funny. It’s like my stomach drags me kicking and screaming to this cold tiled room to say “look at yourself”.

Text 27 Jul 3 notes 50 Shades of Grey

I’m a little over halfway through this book and already I feel like my intelligence must be diminishing, which worries me because it was never exhaustively high in the first place. E.L. James can be excused for writing this trashy trilogy only because it first came into existence as fanfiction based on another of the most awful sagas ever written - Twilight. We learn from this that E.L. James must not have an intuitive taste in well-written prose but we see examples of this in her novel ‘50 Shades of Grey’ which indulges in some of the most vapid metaphors and vacuous sentiment that this reader has possibly ever read. I would not be surprised to discover that James is. in reality, a fourteen year old Justin Bieber fan.

I’m not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing that she has made the best seller list in a number of countries including the UK but, from my understanding of the situation, people were sorely disappointed in the book, perhaps because of or indeed despite the hype leading up to its release. I would hasten to assume that people could not possibly believe this to be a groundbreaking novel purely because it deals with slightly avant-garde themes, like sexual dominance and submission and the pleasure/pain aspect of bedroom experimentation. Surely modern readers are not so very closeted that such themes would immediately shock them into running out to their nearest book shops to purchase said filth? Do modern readers crave being shocked that much? If this is the case, they would still sadly have suffered disappointment. One cannot really be shocked by a writer who on the one hand feels brave enough to speak of whips and chains in the bedroom yet on the other hand describes a vagina using the words ‘down there…’.

There are just some days where going to sleep is the best possible option.

There’s always another day! I can’t tell if I’m a pessimist, an optimist or a realist.

Text 24 May On Summertime

I’m two exams away from having a degree. This is very exciting for me! What is also exciting is that I have many plans for the summer! I will be going to an air show with a group of friends in July, I will be participating in a youth leadership training programme in June, and in August I shall be mentoring my marching band in the Rose of Tralee festival.  There are also many birthday celebrations coming up and our Music Workshop will be running some band workshops throughout June for kids hoping to gain experience playing in bands and writing and recording their own songs and music.

I think it’s safe to say, I may not have had as exciting a summer in quite some time. It’s a lovely way to end a degree.

Today is a good day! Lunch with friends, wine, chilling… All those things are fab.

Exams Monday, which is a bit of a downer. The first is Existentialism, which I do enjoy, although I have to admit it took a little time to overcome the awfulness of realising there is no objective meaning. I think that realisation is not something youre supposed to get over anyway. The only way to deal with it is to embrace it I guess.

Happy Music downloading Day!

Text 8 May 1 note

Sorry, I’m the worst blogger ever. I’ve been fairly busy over the past week and I think the next few will be jampacked with stuff I have to do too. Today is downloading music day.

So far on the list there’s

Simon and Garfunkel

Neil Young

Phil Collins

Freddie Mercury

and The Beatles

I’ve got pretty traditional music tastes, I suppose. I’ve been listening to Simon and Garfunkel since I was 16. (I actually can’t believe that’s almost 10 years. I feel sad and old now.) The iPhone doesn’t have any of my tunes on it and all the stuff I listened to was on CDs.

I’m showing my age.

(Also a shout out to Barry Purcell and Christina Park for being the most awesome friends ever! Hey guys!)
